Check and change a sequence from the IQ chat

Updated 2026-10-13

In CustomIQ you ask the IQ chat about a sequence in your own words, for example "Were the first emails of the unqualified sequence sent?", and it shows its status, contacts and steps. To change, launch or pause it, the chat shows what changes and how many contacts it affects, and only applies it when you answer "yes".

What can I do with a sequence from the IQ chat?

Check whether it is sending and who is next, change waits and email instructions, count the first wait from the contact's registration, launch, pause or archive it, send yourself a test, change the quick-reply buttons, add rules to an agent and create a segment's four stage sequences as drafts.

A sequence can mix three kinds of step: fixed emails (same copy for everyone, only the name changes), WhatsApp messages with an approved template, and steps the agent writes for each contact. When editing, the chat leaves your existing fixed emails and templates as they are unless you ask to change them.

How do I ask in the chat?

Write it in the IQ chat as you would say it: "Were the first emails of the unqualified sequence sent?", "Pause the new leads sequence.", "Add a Do it for me button to the article emails." or "The WhatsApp agent must not talk about prices.".

For a fixed email: "Add a fixed email to the new leads sequence after 3 days reminding them of the welcome offer.". The chat tells you which step it adds and what it costs (the same as one campaign email); when you answer "yes" it writes the email and saves it in the sequence. If something fails the sequence is not changed, and if the email was already written, retrying does not charge again. For WhatsApp, name an approved template ("Add a WhatsApp with the appointment_reminder template after 2 days."); if you don't remember the name, pick it with the template picker on the Sequences page.

What do I do from the dashboard?

In Sequences open the sequence: under "Steps and timing" you change waits and instructions, see who waits on each step and send a test. Fixed emails show their subject and full content, also while the sequence is live.

What do I need first?

For stage sequences, an active email agent on the segment. Answer buttons are set on the email agent.

Steps

  1. Ask in the chat. Say what you want in your own words, e.g. "Pause the new leads sequence.".
  2. Pick the sequence. If you name the stage or the sequence, the chat goes straight to it; otherwise it lists them.
  3. Review and confirm. The card shows what changes and how many contacts it affects; nothing changes until you answer "yes".

Frequently asked questions

What counts as a confirmation?
Only a clear "yes". If you add conditions ("yes, but…") the chat asks again and changes nothing.
What happens to contacts already waiting?
If you change a wait, contacts waiting on that step get the new date, never earlier than now.
How much does it cost?
Checking, editing, launching and pausing are free. Each email the agent writes uses credits, tests included. Adding a fixed email costs the same as one campaign email; the chat tells you the price first and only charges when you answer "yes".
What is a fixed email?
An email with the same copy for every contact; only the name changes. It is written once and you can read it in full on the sequence page, also when the sequence is live.
Can I also do it from the dashboard?
Yes. In Sequences, each sequence has "Steps and timing" with the same options and a "Send me a test" button.
