Learnings: the rules every piece of your content follows

Updated 2026-10-19

In CustomIQ, Learnings is your brand's rulebook: DO and AVOID rules that every generator follows, from images and captions to ads, emails and landing pages. Rules are learned from your calendar notes and chat feedback, or you add them yourself with Add rule, choose what they apply to, and retire them when they stop making sense.

What is the CustomIQ Learnings page?

It is the list of rules CustomIQ follows for each brand. Every rule is a DO or an AVOID with what it applies to (images, captions, videos, blog and PDF, landing pages, emails, ads, campaign planning or the chat assistant) and how confident CustomIQ is about it. Every generator receives the active rules that apply to the content it is making.

How do rules get there?

Most are learned. Leave a note on a card in the Calendar, give feedback in the IQ chat, or reject or edit a piece of content, and CustomIQ distils it into a rule. Click a rule's evidence count to see the note it came from. After you edit a video with Smart Edit, CustomIQ may also propose rules under Proposals to confirm; they only apply once you confirm them.

What do I do from the dashboard?

Open Learnings and pick the brand. Press Add rule to write one yourself: choose what it applies to, DO or AVOID, and one imperative sentence of up to 400 characters. It is active immediately. Edit the wording of any rule, retire it when it stops making sense, and turn on Show retired to bring it back.

Can I manage rules in the chat?

The IQ chat applies the active rules whenever it creates content, and your feedback in the chat becomes new rules. Adding, editing or retiring a rule by hand is done on the Learnings page.

What does it cost?

Managing Learnings does not spend credits.

Steps

  1. Open Learnings. Go to Settings, Learnings and pick the brand. Each row is one DO or AVOID rule.
  2. See where a rule came from. Click the evidence count to read the calendar note or chat feedback it was learned from.
  3. Add a rule. Press Add rule, choose what it applies to, pick DO or AVOID and write one clear sentence.
  4. Retire or reactivate. Press Retire on a rule that no longer fits; turn on Show retired to reactivate it.

Frequently asked questions

Where do learned rules come from?
From notes you leave on calendar cards, feedback in the chat, rejected or edited content, and rules proposed after Smart Edit that you confirm.
Does a rule apply to everything?
Only to the content you choose under Applies to, for example only ads, so an image rule never reaches your emails.
Can I undo a rule?
Yes. Retire it and it stops applying straight away; reactivate it whenever you want, or edit its wording.
