My campaign shows as removed or paused on Meta

Updated 2026-10-14

In CustomIQ a campaign deleted in Meta Ads Manager shows as "Removed on Meta" in Campaigns after the two-hourly sync: its data stays read-only and it accepts no new creatives or optimizations. A campaign paused on Meta shows as "Paused" and can be resumed. After a deletion, type "Create an ad campaign on Meta." in the IQ chat.

What does "removed" mean in Campaigns?

That the campaign was deleted in Meta Ads Manager. CustomIQ detects it in the sync, which runs roughly every two hours, and marks it in Campaigns so you do not pick a dead campaign. Its details stay visible read-only and optimization is turned off. A campaign paused on Meta is not removed: it shows as Paused.

What do I do from the dashboard?

Open Campaigns and filter by status. If it shows as Paused, resume it on Meta and wait for the next sync. If it shows as Removed on Meta, it cannot be recovered: create a new one.

How do I continue in the chat?

Type "Create an ad campaign on Meta." in the IQ chat to launch a new campaign. If you try to add a creative to the removed campaign, the IQ chat warns you that it no longer exists before generating anything.

What do I need first?

An active Meta connection and, if you are creating a new campaign, a clear budget and goal to answer the IQ chat.

What does it cost?

Checking the status does not spend credits. A new campaign follows the usual creative generation cost.

Steps

  1. Check the status in Campaigns. Open Campaigns and filter by status; a campaign deleted on Meta shows as Removed on Meta, a paused one as Paused.
  2. Wait for the sync. If you just changed it on Meta, the status updates in about two hours.
  3. Resume it on Meta if it was a pause. A paused campaign is resumed from Meta Ads Manager; CustomIQ reflects it on the next sync.
  4. Create a new one if it was deleted. Type "Create an ad campaign on Meta." in the IQ chat; a deleted campaign cannot be recovered.

Frequently asked questions

Why does CustomIQ not let me add a creative?
Because the campaign was deleted on Meta; the IQ chat checks before generating and warns that the campaign no longer exists.
Is what the campaign spent lost?
No. Results already recorded stay in Analytics; what is not possible is to keep publishing in that campaign.
Can I avoid it being marked as removed?
Yes: pause or change the campaign from Campaigns and the IQ chat, and avoid deleting it directly on Meta.
